Mommy Monday: Lessons From My Little One

Hello Everyone!

I’ve mentioned here before that I love to garden and be outside in the yard and that my son now shares in that love too.  I like to teach him about growing vegetable and about flowers, plants, and bugs, but I have been surprised at how much I have been learning from him lately.  It’s so fun to watch him enjoy nature.

We have tomato bushes and the other day I was showing him that when they are red we can pick them and eat them.  I helped him pick one off and then we washed it with the hose and I gave it to him to carry into the house so I could cut it up and give it to him to eat.  As soon as I handed it to him he took a giant bite out of it letting the juices run down his face and arms.  I watched him as he delighted in devouring the tomato and ate the whole thing right there!  I love his reckless abandon; no need to go inside, cut it up, sit in my high chair and eat it!  Why not just soak in the moment and enjoy it right here and now?!  Who cares what I look like!

I love his enthusiasm for life and the little things that make up our day.  He loves to smell the roses.  I’m not even sure where he learned to do this.  I guess maybe he has seen me do it, or maybe it is just human nature to enjoy the beauty that God has created.

He helps me to slow down (when I’m not chasing him around 😉 ) and notice the everyday things that I take for granted.  I start to notice the details and realize how thankful I am for them…ripe juicy tomatoes right off the vine, the fragrant smell of roses, running through sprinklers on a hot day, watching a garden grow from just seeds, sweet little giggles from the one who has my heart.  Life is full of miracles and things to be thankful for.  I don’t always have this perspective as I go throughout my day, when the house is a disaster, the laundry is in a heap on the couch, and it’s 5:00 and I have no plan for dinner, but I’m working on being thankful for everything in every season.  I guess that’s why God gave me this amazing little boy to point out the gifts that have been given to me to enjoy on a daily basis.

Have a wonderful day, friends!  I am thankful for all of you!

  1. Luke you are such a handsome boy and you’re growing so fast! I’m getting better at enjoying my babies and letting things like laundry, messes, and fingerprints go. It’s not always easy but we are all muh happier when I’m not stressed out all the time. As always, your post is very encouraging. :)
